i completely agree with appletv. love it. and i know others who have built home media servers, which requires a bit of know how but it's all getting better. i have friends who use tivo, too, but i am not sure how they work it: do they have basic cable and then use tivo for access to netflix, something like that, or do they pay for it all. i am lucky to have fiber to the home, but i know exactly what you're saying. we pay for the midlevel service (almost have to) and no premium channels. if it was just me, i'd ditch cable. but with the wife and kid, can't really do that.

Hey, go completely off the grid and don't bother with TV. I watch mine, maybe, twice a year. Am I missing a lot? :) I don't know why I don't even think to turn it on. I'd may as well be Mennonite.

Very accurate metaphorical descriptions of MyFaceTwitter. I think I am going to steal that and use that in my next one-too-many intellectual bar conversation :) Awesome.

AppleTV changed everything for me. There is one in my bedroom, one in the living room, and a box in my son's room.

I could pay $75 a month to cable/sat provider - or I could pay $0.99 per episode or $1 - $3 per movie I wanted to watch - the TV shows I now own, the movies I have 24 hours to view/review at my leisure. All available ON DEMAND - when I want them. And since I house everything in iTunes on my main computer in the house - I can serve them up to any TV in the house - along with music if they happen to be attached to a stereo system. Not a sales pitch - just an explanation of the product.

What I found is that with a HiDef antenna for events happening NOW, which I get for free over the air, and my ATV which serves up my shows when/if I want them (if I want to save up 5 episodes of Lost! to watch back-to-back one weekend) - my choice. Stuff for the kiddo is usually free, Sesame Street episodes, etc. and for cartoons, his library has been built a few shows a week for a while - which has all he really needs to watch - but now has a pretty hefty library of Sponge Bob, etc. ;) You spend less. It is commercial-free. You get better quality programming because YOU choose when/what you watch. And don't forget about Podcasts (all free) - The Nightly News with Brian Williams, etc. is released immediately following the broadcast, setup to auto-download to my library everyday, so if I want my chunk of murders, mayhem, and meltdowns (financial but I wanted to keep the alliteration rolling there) - it is right there when I want it. Every Sunday, whether I am here or not, Meet The Press is downloaded to my iTunes library for free for my viewing pleasure if/when I get around to watching it - no commercials. Figure $1 an hour for this season's TV shows or movies - that is almost 19 hours of TV a week - I don't watch near that much - so for me, this has been a great solution.

"...you, me, all of us, should be adding value to each others lives daily in one way or another, and if not, how do we define our personal value? "

This struck when I was reading through last week and has crippled my ability to tweet...beyond my exercise in characterization in reference to the Dish Pit blog, my personal twitter account has been silent.

I'm very happy to read your blog.
I don't know how I have had a part in creating such a bright boy! Because, frankly, I don't know what emerging media narratives are. Will you give me an example?
I'm going to roam around your blog for a while...
love, Mom

Bravo!!! Economics has a similar theory about value add it is a means to protect a society from price swings (thus economic peril) due to reliance on commodities. Perhaps in tweet land one must remember the difference between a commodity message and real value add. Keep on the road to your personal value add, it will increase your long term value to society!!
